Women’s Lacrosse Claims CBB Dominance with Gritty 14-10 Victory Over Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – In a high-stakes installment of the CBB (Colby-Bates-Bowdoin) rivalry, the Colby College Women's Lacrosse team showcased their poise, outlasting Bates College 14-10 on Wednesday night at Garcelon Field. The Mules utilized a powerful offensive second half and a lockdown defensive performance in the closing minutes to secure the crucial NESCAC win.

Key Highlights:

  • Second-Half Surge: Tied in a defensive stalemate for much of the first half, the Mules' offense found its rhythm in the third quarter, orchestrating a decisive scoring run that gave Colby the lead for good.

  • Offensive Masterclass: Sophomore sensation Charlotte Michener and Freshman Joselyn Silva led all scorers, finding the back of the net four times each. Their ability to finish under pressure in the fourth quarter stifled any hopes of a Bates comeback.

  • Playmaking Precision: Senior Stella Regan and freshman Corinne Kapalka were the architects of the Colby attack, combining for five assists. Their vision in transition allowed the Mules to exploit gaps in the Bobcats' defense.

  • Draw Circle Dominance: The Mules won the battle for possession, securing a 15-11 advantage in draw controls. Kristin Podgorni and Ashley Smail were instrumental in the circle, providing Colby with the extra looks needed to pull away late.

  • Hall Stands Tall: Sophomore goalkeeper Brynna Hall delivered a stellar performance between the pipes, recording 10 saves. Her highlight-reel stop on a free-position attempt in the final minutes slammed the door on the Bobcats.

  • Defensive Lockdown: The Colby backline, anchored by Izzy Wang and Ashley Smail, held Bates to just two goals in the final 15 minutes, demonstrating the communication and grit that has become a hallmark of the Mules' defense.

The victory not only strengthens Colby's position in the NESCAC standings but also allows Colby to claim the season's CBB title. The Mules displayed incredible depth, with six different players finding the score sheet in a total team effort. With the win, the Mules improve to 8-5 overall and 4-5 in NESCAC play, carrying a wave of momentum into their final regular-season contests.

Final Score:
Colby: 14
Bates: 10
