Women’s Lacrosse Battles Trinity in Defensive Dual

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Colby College Women's Lacrosse team displayed defensive grit and a late-game scoring surge on Saturday afternoon, falling 12-7 to a high-powered Trinity College squad at Sheppard Field. Despite the final score, the Mules proved their resilience by holding the Bantams to their second-lowest scoring output of the month.

Key Highlights:

  • Hall's Career Day: Sophomore goalkeeper Brynna Hall was spectacular between the pipes, racking up a game-high 13 saves. Her performance was anchored by a massive six-save third quarter that kept the Mules within striking distance against a relentless Trinity attack.

  • Balanced Offensive Attack: Six different Mules contributed to the score sheet. Charlotte Michener led the point total with a goal and two assists, while sophomore Emliy Counihan found the back of the net twice to highlight Colby's depth.

  • Draw Circle Resilience: Facing one of the top draw units in the NESCAC, the Mules battled for every possession. The Mules combined for nine draw controls, with two each from Julia Maimonis and Ashley Smail, ensuring Colby remained competitive in the midfield transition.

  • Ground Ball Dominance: The Mules' hustle was on full display as they out-grounded the Bantams 26-25. Senior Emily Darby was instrumental in the defensive zone, setting the team high for four ground balls to stymie Trinity's second-chance opportunities.

The contest was a tactical defensive battle for much of the first half, with Colby's backline holding Trinity to six goals in the second half. Avery Del Col provided a spark in the third period with a clinical finish off a feed from Kristin Podgorni, keeping the pressure on the Bantams' defense.

The Mules (8-6, 4-6 NESCAC) now return home to Mayflower Hill for their final game of the regular season.

Final Score:
Colby: 7
Trinity: 12

Up Next: The Mules return to Bill Alfond Field to host Roger Williams in the regular-season finale on Sunday, April 19. Opening draw is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
