Davenport, Fla. - The Colby College Baseball team capped off its spring break trip with a resilient performance on Saturday, overcoming an early deficit to secure a 7-6 victory over the Panthers of Middlebury College.
The Mules displayed significant grit after falling behind 5-0 in the early frames. The comeback effort was ignited by the bats, as Colby surged late to overtake Middlebury.
Jeb Burkhart provided the decisive blow with a towering home run, finishing the day with four RBIs to lead the offensive charge.
Will Burns and
Max Diamond also came through in key moments, each contributing an RBI to help chip away at the Panthers'' lead.
Tony Silva and Burns were constant threats on the base paths, combining for five runs scored. Silva added a double to the box score, while
Myles Oo contributed a double and a stolen base to keep the pressure on. On the mound, the Mules' bullpen stood tall during the middle innings to stall the Middlebury momentum, allowing the offense the opportunity to mount the successful late-inning rally and finish the day with a win.
The victory concluded a productive Florida stretch for the Mules, during which the team secured multiple wins against non-conference opponents, going 4-4 overall on the week. Highlights from the trip included a sweep of St. Olaf College and a thrilling come-from-behind 10-7 win over Union College. Colby returns north having gained momentum as they are back in action at home against Plymouth State on Tuesday and lead off their conference play the following Saturday against Tufts.
