Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Men's Lacrosse team played the Cougars of Clark University on Tuesday afternoon for a mid-week non-conference match up. The Mules came out strong, taking an early lead over Clark and only allowing one goal in the first half. With ten different goal scorers, Colby ended the game with a 19-4 win over the Cougars, remaining undefeated out of conference. The Mules now stand 2-3 overall.
In the first quarter, sophomore
Will Steele kicked off the scoring for the Mules less than three minutes into the game, his fourth of the season. Steele's goal was followed up by a goal from first year
Emmet Meagher, his first of the season, assisted by
Marek Elia.
Matthew George,
Blake Ingold,
Easton Bello, and
Ethan Taerstein each recorded one goal a piece in the first 15 minutes. Meagher found his second of the game, assisted by
Trevor Payne, as the clock winded down to close out the quarter. While the Mules entered the second up 7-0, Clark scored their first goal of the game about three minutes into the quarter. Colby then scored four more goals to close out the half, coming from
JT O'Neil, his first of the season, and one more each from George, Ingold, and Steele.Â
Starting the second half up 11-1 over Clark, the Cougars scored their second of the game less than a minute into the quarter. Colby then scored five more goals to extend their lead to 16-2, coming from
Anthony Long and
Quinton Delorey, their first goals of the season,
Daniel O'Connor, and two more from Steele. Clark managed to get one more goal behind the Mules before the end of the half, but Colby still held their strong lead entering the final quarter. The Mules didn't let up, getting three more goals by the Cougars defense, as O'Connor, Delorey, and Ingold found one goal apiece. Clark squeaked one more shot behind the Mules, but with their early lead from the first half, Colby finished with a 19-4 win to end the game.
First-year
Zachary Parks recorded his first career start and win for the Mules, recording five saves, his most this season so far. Steele and Ingold led the offense for Colby, scoring four and three goals, respectively. Meagher, O'Connor, Delorey, and George each found the back of the net twice, contributing to Colby's 19 goals on the day.
Colby is back in action Saturday at home against Hamilton to kick off their spring break games.
