Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Men's Lacrosse team displayed a high-powered offensive surge in the second half of Saturday's conference match against the Continentals of Hamilton College. Despite a tough 18-10 loss, the Mules' attack was headlined by a standout performance from
Eli Chilicki, who led all scorers in the contest. The Mules now stand 2-4 overall.
The Mules found their rhythm in the third period, outscoring the Continentals 5-3 during the frame to tighten the score and swing the momentum in favor of the home crowd. Chilicki was the catalyst for the Colby offense, netting four goals on the day. His scoring versatility was on full display as he notched the opening goal of the game and added a crucial unassisted tally during the third-quarter rally.
Joining Chilicki in the multi-goal column were
Joey Hagerty and
Daniel O'Connor, who each found the back of the net twice. Hagerty's clinical finishing and O'Connor's ability to create space allowed Colby to remain a constant threat throughout the second half.
Gavin Rothenberg also contributed significantly to the score sheet, recording a goal and an assist, while
Luke Lombardo added a goal of his own to round out the Mules' offensive effort.
On the defensive side, the Mules worked tirelessly to disrupt the Hamilton transition game. In the cage,
Will Heisler provided a steady presence for Colby, turning away 13 shots to keep the Mules within striking distance during their mid-game comeback attempt.
Colby will look to carry the momentum from their productive five-goal third quarter into their next game against MIT on Tuesday at 1pm.
