Gorham, Maine - The Colby College Women's Lacrosse team faced USM for a non-conference midweek matchup. The Mules fought hard and saw many players on the field, leading them to the impressive 15-5 win. They overall record is now 1-2.
Colby got off to an impressive start, scoring five goals in the opening quarter.
Christina Long opened the scoring, followed by
Ainsley Burke,
Corinne Kapalka and
Joselyn Silva. Southern Maine managed to respond with two goals, but Colby's offense held strong. In the second quarter, Colby extended its lead with four more goals, including two from Long, and one each for
Julia Maimonis and
Stella Regan. Southern Maine added two more goals, but Colby maintained control, heading into halftime up 9-4. The Mules continued to possess strong offensive pressure in the second half, scoring six more times while limiting USM's chances.

Lucy Dyer, and
Chelsea Tzau,
Isabel Shurtleff,
Madelyn Almgren all recorded their first goals of the season. The Mules finished with 29 total shots and four total saves from goaltenders
Brynna Hall and
Addi Hurley. Long led in goals with three, while Colby's attack featured goals from 11 different players.
Izzy Wang had three caused turnovers and
Kristin Podgorni won six draw controls. The Mules dominant team effort led them to the 15-5 victory.
The Mules will head down to Wesleyan this weekend for a NESCAC matchup on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
