Middletwon, Conn. - The Colby College Women's Lacrosse team traveled down to Connecticut this weekend to face the Cardinals of Wesleyan University. Despite strong efforts, after 60 minutes of fierce play the Mules fell 10-4.
Despite no goals in the opening quarter for the Mules, they put forward a strong defensive effort to keep the Cardinals away from the net. The Mules recorded eight ground balls and five shots in the first period. Wesleyan held a strong scoring streak throughout the second quarter, but
Zoey Verbesey broke the run with just a few minutes remaining before halftime. The Mules entered the third period down 6-1 but showed strong energy and determination. They won six of seven draw controls and added three more goals. Though Colby did not score in the final quarter, the Mules continued to showcase strong effort throughout the remainder of the game. They finished with 15 shots, 19 ground balls, and 12 caused turnovers.
Ainsley Burke led the team with two goals, three shots, and three caused turnovers. After intense play, the Mules ultimately fell 10-4.
Colby will travel to Hamilton next weekend for some more NESCAC play on Saturday at 1:00 PM
