Waterville, Maine - The No. 3 ranked Colby College Women's Lacrosse team opened its season against the No. 2-ranked Jumbos of Tufts University. The Mules showed strong energy in their first game, but after 60 minutes of play, they fell 16-11.
Colby started strong, scoring just one minute into the game. Tufts responded quickly and took a 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. The early deficit did not slow the Mules, who recorded six shots on goal in the second quarter. Tufts held an 11-5 advantage at halftime and extended the lead to 13-7 by the end of the third quarter, but in the final 15 minutes, Colby showed strong play, adding four more goals.
Joselyn Silva and
Corinne Kapalka led the team with three goals each, followed by
Tate Ban with two.
Stella Regan,
Charlotte Michener, and
Ainsley Burke each contributed one goal. Regan and Michener also led the Mules in assists with two apiece.
Emily Darby and
Ashley Smail each collected two ground balls, while
Joselyn Silva and
Izzy Wang caused two turnovers each. Goaltender
Brynna Hall added five saves in net. Despite strong efforts against a highly ranked opponent, the Mules fell 16-11.
The Mules will return to their home field next Saturday at 11 AM to face Williams College.
