Softball Begins 2026 Campaign Welcoming Thomas

Waterville, Maine - The Colby Softball team is ready for the 2026 season to get underway this Saturday, February 28th hosting Thomas College. This marks the third straight year the Mules will face the Terriers in the season opener and will look to defeat them once again (4-0 in last two seasons).

Last year Colby finished with a 17-20 overall record and 10-8 conference record while making it to the semifinal round of the NESCAC Championship Tournament. The team will look to earn a spot in the tournament once again for the fifth straight season in 2026. Despite losing three to graduation last spring, the Mules are joined by a new group of five first-years looking to make an impact on the program from the jump. Colby will be led by a half dozen seniors this season; KC DeSarno, Emma Burnham, Kathryne Clay, Carissa Cassidy, Kelsey Sullivan, and Victoria Ramirez

Of the .300 or above batters from last year three of the four return to the lineup this season including Cassidy, a three-time All-NESCAC selection. The outfielder led the Mules with a solid .385 batting average last season with 37 hits, 16 RBIs, and a perfect 13 for 13 on stolen base attempts. Other key batters include Ella Wilcox who led the team in RBIs (26) and Caroline DeSimone who had the most runs (27) and home runs (4). All four pitchers in the rotation last year return to the team as well with KC DeSarno leading in the ERA category with a 3.07. Sophia Meade also returns who tallied the most strikeouts with 57.

"We're thrilled to kick off our season on February 28th!" stated Head Coach Terren Allen. "This team's hard work in the weight room this offseason has been remarkable - they're stronger, faster, and more explosive, and it's paying dividends on the field. It's exciting to see our veteran leadership guiding the way, fostering a culture of growth and improvement that's driven our progress year after year. With a blend of experienced players and talented newcomers, we're building a cohesive unit that's hungry to take the next step. And with last year's NESCAC semifinal run as fuel, we're ready to push ourselves to new heights."

Head Coach Allen is now entering her eighth season with the Mules. She is joined by Assistant Head Coach Dorothy O'Donnell who has been with the team since the start of the 2018-19 season.

Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 11:30am on the Colby Softball Field. The Mules have not lost to the Terriers since 2019. Fans can check out the teams schedule tab to follow alongside the Mules this season and find out when they come to a location near you.
