Women’s Ice Hockey Ends Regular Season With a Win

Middlebury, Vermont - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team faced Middlebury College in its final game of the regular season. Despite last night's loss, the Mules showed strong play and earned a 3-1 victory.

The Mules entered the game with high intensity, firing 16 shots in the opening period. At 9:09, Molly Lefebvre set the tone by giving Colby the lead, assisted by Emily Olsthoorn and Lulu Gray. Goaltender Ally Martiniello started strong, making nine saves to keep Middlebury off the board. Middlebury tied the game 10:36 into the second period. Despite no additional scoring, Colby recorded 12 shots and won 15 of 18 faceoffs, while Martiniello added six more saves. Entering the third period tied 1-1, the Mules were determined to regain the lead. After intense back-and-forth play, Sophia Kennedy broke the tie at 13:57, assisted by Megan Martodam and Lizzy Hamel. Kennedy struck again at 18:09 with an empty-net goal to seal the win. Colby added 18 more shots in the final frame for a game total of 46, and Martiniello finished with 21 saves. Molly Lefebvre led the Mules with seven shots. Despite Middlebury's No. 5 national ranking, Colby closed out the regular season with a 3-1 victory and a record of 16-6-1.

The Mules will play in the NESCAC quarterfinals next Saturday, with the game schedule and opponent to be announced soon.
