Men's Basketball Headed to Tufts to Open NESCAC Tournament

Waterville, Maine - The Colby Men's Basketball team is set for the NESCAC Championship Tournament beginning this Saturday, February 21st with quarterfinal round action. The seventh seeded Mules will head to Medford, Mass. to matchup with the two seeded Tufts Jumbos. This marks the sixth tournament appearance for Colby in the last seven years.

During the regular season, back on January 10th, the 13th nationally ranked Jumbos took care of the Mules 88-66. Dan Civello had 15 points and three blocks in the contest followed by Savion Stroud with 11 points and five rebounds. Tufts is currently ranked 11th in all of Division III.

Colby will look to defeat the Jumbos for the first time in conference postseason play as Tufts holds a 3-0 advantage in the tournaments history. The last time these two teams met in the NESCAC Tournament was the 2020 championship game which landed in the hands of the Jumbos in double-overtime.

Statistically, the Mules head into postseason action sharing the ball well with the most assists per game in the conference averaging 17.5. This is led by Stroud's play making ability as he is tied second for the most assists in the NESCAC with 91. The team also holds the second best defensive rebound stat line averaging 29 per game. Colby will have to be on alert of the Jumbos shot blocking ability averaging 5.65 blocks per game, the most in the conference. Be on the lookout for Civello on the offensive side of the court who has the second most points in the NESCAC with 437 this season (18.2 average). The sophomore forward also holds the fourth best field goal percentage (.532) and three point percentage (.400).

The quarterfinal round match is set for a 2:00pm start. Fans can follow alongside the action using the live stat and live video links as well as check out the NESCAC Championship Central page for more information. The winner will advanced to the championship weekend with the semifinal round on February 28th followed by the championship game on March 1st.
