Waterville, Maine - The No. 8 Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team faced Wesleyan University for a Friday night NESCAC matchup. After strong offensive possession, the Mules earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory.

Coming off an impressive weekend, the Mules carried their momentum into the contest, controlling play early. Colby gained possession right away and applied consistent offensive pressure. Just 4:27 into the opening period,
Molly Lefebvre opened the scoring to give the Mules a 1-0 lead, assisted by
Allie Corrieri and
Kayleigh Michaud-Nolan. Colby continued to dominate possession throughout the first period, firing 28 shots on goal, earning two power-play opportunities, and winning 15 of 18 faceoffs. At 13:33,
Sophia Kennedy doubled the Mules' lead with a goal assisted by
Beth Sinson and
Megan Martodam. Wesleyan responded at 16:47 to cut the deficit to one, but Colby remained composed. Goaltender
Ally Martiniello was steady in net, making 10 saves in the opening period to preserve the 2-1 advantage. The Mules maintained their strong play in the second period, recording 22 more shots and winning 12 of 15 faceoffs. Wesleyan tied the game at the 14-minute mark, but Colby's defense held firm for the remainder of the period. Martiniello added five more saves to keep the game even heading into the third. With the score tied 2-2 entering the final period, Colby came out determined to regain the lead. After lots of pressure and back-and-forth play, the breakthrough came at 7:09, when
Jo Tattersall scored to put the Mules ahead 3-2. Colby continued to press offensively, earning two more power-play opportunities and adding 17 more shots, to finish with 67 total shots. Martiniello made seven additional saves, finishing the night with a total of 22. The Mules ended the game winning 38 of 45 faceoffs, with three different goal scorers, and Martodam leading all players with 10 shots on goal.
Colby is back in action tomorrow against Wesleyan University at 3:00 PM.Â
