Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s Hockey Celebrate their Seniors

Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team faced Wesleyan University for the second time of the weekend. As their final home game of the regular reason, the Mules honored their eight seniors: Grace Caligiuri, Sophia Kennedy, Beth Sinson, Sophie Melsness, Breanna Studley, Megan Martodam, Courtney Schumacher, and Jo Tattersall. Despite strong play, the Mules fell to Wesleyan 4-2.

Colby wasted no time getting on the board. With the first shot of the night just 25 seconds in, Beth Sinson gave the Mules a 1-0 lead, assisted by Sophia Kennedy. Wesleyan answered with goals at 9:03 and 17:05 to take a 2-1 lead, but Colby continued to show strong offensive pressure in the opening period, recording 21 shots, earning two power-play opportunities, and winning 17 of 20 faceoffs. Goaltender Grace Caligiuri started in net for the Mules and made seven saves.

Wesleyan extended its lead in the second period, scoring at 11:36 and adding a power-play goal at 14:58 to go ahead 4-1. Colby generated another 21 shots in the period, while Caligiuri added six more saves. Entering the third, the Mules were determined to cut into the deficit. At 8:05, Brooke Eselunas scored to make it a 4-2 game, assisted by Marion Legge. Colby dominated possession in the final period, firing 40 shots, including 29 on goal, and winning 20 of 27 faceoffs. Ally Martiniello took over in net for the third period and made four saves. Colby finished the game with 82 total shots, with Schumacher leading the team with 11. Despite the strong offensive effort, the Mules fell 4-2.

The Mules will close out regular-season play next weekend as they travel to Middlebury College for a Friday night puck drop at 7:00 PM.
