Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Basketball team came up short against the Trinity College Bantams tonight 61-48. This game dropped Colby to 13-10 on the season and 3-6 in the conference. Trinity is now 16-7 and 5-4 in the NESCAC.
The Mules played a hard fought game today keeping the score each quarter within five points. Colby was not able to secure a lead, but played with heart and worked with their opportunities. The Mules showed their versatility dropping 22 points in the paint today with eight points on fast break and the bench coming in strong with 12. On the foul line in the first half, the girls went 100% in their shooting and put that effort in off ball with 30 rebounds on the day. Rebounds were led by Talia Thompson with six and Amelia Hanscom on her trail with five. At the basket Colby's Chelsea Ibenegbu showed up with team high 11 points followed by Lydia Mordarski with 10 and Thompson with nine.
With great ball tracking the girls were able to cause seven turnovers through steals powered by Mordaraski with three, Caroline Hartley with two, and both Kate Olenik and Thompson added one. Furthering their defensive pressure, the Mules had three blocks today, one each coming from Hartley, Hanscom, and Emily Ryan. Mordarski was putting in her all, also leading the team with four assists while Ryan, Thompson, and Olenik added two themselves. Regardless of the continuous team effort Colby came up short and looks to move forward for the last game of the regular season.
The Mules remain home tomorrow Saturday February 14 for the final NESCAC game of the regular season against Wesleyan at 3:00 PM.
