Middletown, Conn. - The Colby College Men's Soccer team displayed trademark grit and relentless defensive effort on the road Saturday afternoon, battling through a demanding NESCAC contest against Wesleyan University at Jackson Field. Despite creating quality chances in the opening frame and remaining resolute under pressure, the Mules were ultimately edged 2–0 by the host Cardinals.
Colby came out aggressive in the opening half, repeatedly threatening the Wesleyan backline and forcing early saves. Forward Will Kogelmann and midfielder Jude Gussen tested Cardinals goalkeeper Simon Rebstock in the first 20 minutes with high-quality strikes on frame, while Ethan Soroca added another dangerous attempt right before halftime. Goalkeeper Jackson Magee anchored the Mules' defense with composure, making four saves on the afternoon and keeping Colby well within striking distance through several high-intensity stretches.
Although Wesleyan managed to break through with goals on either side of the interval, Colby showed impressive roster depth and resilience, utilizing dynamic rotation across the pitch to push until the final whistle. The Mules will look to build on their offensive build-up play and defensive fight as they return home to Waterville for their next conference matchup. Colby will host Amherst on Saturday.Â
