The Mules Topped by Amherst in Close NESCAC Matchup

Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Basketball team fell short to the Mammoths of Amherst College 66-59. Colby now holds a 11-7 overall record and 2-3 in the conference and the Mammoths jump to 15-4 and 4-1 in the NESCAC.

The Mules started off hot today, outscoring the opponent 23 to 13 in the first quarter, but Amherst was able to turn the tables for the rest of the game, picking up their scoring. Points were led today by an overwhelming 23 from Kate Olenik and Colby used the mistakes they forced out of Amherst to score 14 off of caused turnovers. The Mules worked hard under the basket with 21 rebounds of which the team high came from Olenik with six closely followed by Talia Thompson with five. 

Colby did not shy away on defense and was able to make ten steals with Thompson leading at three. In a close second with steals were Chelsea Ibenegbu and Lydia Mordarski with two. Olenik, Emily Ryan, and Lauren Cho all added one of their own. Thompson and Ibenegbu led assists with three each and both threw up eight points. Olenik had two assists to add to the group. Amelia Hanscom had three points, four rebounds, and two assists. Another 12 points came from Mordarski and Ryan with six each.

The Mules continue their time in Waterville tomorrow January 31 against conference team Hamilton at 3:00 PM.
