Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Basketball team fell to the Continentals of Hamilton College 52-37 and moved to an 11-8 overall record and 2-4 in the NESCAC. Hamilton is now 10-10 and 2-4 for the conference.
The game had a slow scoring start with Colby ending the first quarter down nine to four. In the fourth quarter, the Mules picked up speed scoring 16, but unfortunately could not pull off the comeback against the visiting Continentals. Colby proved their speed today by scoring two layups off of fast breaks which contributed four of their points. The Mules played well in the lane today dropping 18 points in the paint and grabbing 31 rebounds. Rebounds were led by Caroline Hartley and Talia Thompson with six each.
Colby's leading scorer on the day was Amelia Hanscom who contributed 12 points in addition to her three assists and four rebounds. Lauren Cho was not far away with ten points. Cho added three rebounds and team high two steals for the Mules. Shea Donnelly and Ana Von Rumohr both hit a three pointer tonight and Donnelly played quick on the press obtaining a steal. Hartley and Lili Nagy each added a steal of their own. Chelsea Ibenegbu put up five rebounds and three points plus an assist. With a strict face guard tonight, Kate Olenik was held to two points but moved the ball well and contributed an assist and three rebounds. The score does not reflect the hustle and work put in by the Mules, but ultimately they came up short.
Colby will hit the road on February 3 to face off against the University of Maine- Farmington at 7:00 PM.
