Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team hosted the Ephs of Williams College for a Friday night NESCAC matchup. Despite the Mules' strong efforts, they fell 0-2.
Despite a scoreless first period, Colby showed strong efforts on both ends of the ice. The Mules totaled totaled 18 shots in the opening period, while goaltender
Ally Martiniello made six saves to keep the Ephs off the board. Colby continued to fight in the second period, firing 17 more shots and controlling much of the offensive pressure. Martiniello remained strong in net, turning away another 11 shots to keep the game tied heading into the third. Despite strong efforts, the game remained 0-0. Colby carried momentum into the final period and continued to generate scoring chances. Despite their efforts, Williams broke the deadlock at 13:40 to take a 1-0 lead. With under three minutes remaining, the Mules pulled the goalie in an attempt to even the score, but Williams added an empty-net goal at 19:23 to seal the game. Colby finished the game with 59 total shots, while Martiniello recorded 22 saves in net. The Mules showed strong defensive and offensive efforts throughout the game and look ahead to their next matchup.
Colby will face Williams College again tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 PM.Â
