Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Colby Loses to UNE in High-Scoring Third Period

Brunswick, Maine - The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team faced the Nor'easters of University of New England on Friday evening for their first game of the new year in the First Annual Lobster Pot Tournament. Despite playing a close first two periods, UNE scored three goals in the third to finish with a 5-1 win. The Mules now stand 5-3-1 overall.

UNE started off the scoring early, taking a 1-0 lead less than four minutes into the first period. While the Nor'easters remained ahead for the remainder of the period, sophomore Colby Browne netted the first goal of the new year for the Mules, assisted by Matthew MacDonald, to tie the game with just seven seconds left to play in the first. UNE didn't wait very long to take score again, taking a 2-1 lead just 1:32 into the second period.

In the third period, Colby fought hard to tie the game, but it wasn't enough. The Nor'easters found two more quick goals at the start of the third and put the game away with another one on a Mules penalty kill to end the game. Sophomore Cooper Rautenstrauch recorded 23 saves.

Colby is back in action Saturday against USM for the second round of the Lobster Pot Tournament.
