Falmouth, Maine - The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team faced the Huskies of University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon for their second game in the Lobster Pot Tournament. Colby took and held onto an early lead, finishing on top with a 4-3 win after a late goal in the third period. The Mules now stand 6-3-1 overall.
In the first period, junior
Matthew MacDonald started off the scoring for the Mules, his first of the season, assisted by
Jayden Grier and
Ben Morgan only five minutes into the game. As the rest of the first remained 1-0, senior
Reese Farrell scored his first of the season assisted by
Bobby Landry and
Donovan O'Neil, as the Mules took a 2-0 lead over the Huskies. USM then cut Colby's lead in half, scoring their first of the game with five minutes left to play in the second.
In a high-scoring third, MacDonald found his second of the game six minutes into the period, but USM answered back 30 seconds later, making it a one goal game as Colby led 3-2. The Huskies capitalized on their fourth power play of the game, tying the game at 3-3 with about ten minutes to play. At 16:49 in the third, sophomore
Colby Browne scored his tenth goal of the season and third game-winner, pushing the Mules ahead 4-3 as they finished with the win on the afternoon. Senior Adam Costly recorded 23 saves over 60 minutes, earning his second win of the season for the Mules. Colby finished the weekend 1-1 in the First Annual Lobster Pot Tournament.
Colby returns home on Tuesday against St. Anselm at 4pm.
