Bangor, Maine - The Colby Women's Basketball team finds a win over Husson University 61-47. This win propelled the Mules to 10-4 on the year and Husson dropped to 8-6.
Once again, Colby's determination shined through as they worked hard in all four quarters. Starting off on the slower side offensively, the Mules trailed 14-8 going into the second quarter, but were able to turn it around and push ahead with 19 points in both the second and third. This separated them from the Eagles keeping the Mules ahead after both teams scored 15 in the fourth quarter. To no surprise, Colby made use of their caused turnovers scoring an overwhelming 28 points. The Mules were able to move fast in transition and scored 15 off of fast break plays while the bench contributed another 15. Working hard to keep the Eagles to a low score, Colby was able to swat away seven shots with two blocks coming from both Kate Olenik and Talia Thompson.
The Mules leading scorer of the night was Olenik with 16 who also tied for team high assists and steals at two each and tagged on five rebounds. Three other plays all had two steals - Lydia Mordarski, Chelsea Ibenegbu, and Ana Von Rumohr. Mordarski added 14 points to the board and had two assists with team high seven rebounds. This was closely followed by Defne Pekinbas with six rebounds. Lauren Cho, Ibenegbu, and Amelia Hanscom played selflessly with two assists each. Ten different players were able to contribute points for Colby showing strength all over the court which helped lead to the dominant non conference win.
The Mules play next on Sunday January, 18th at Bates College at 1:00 PM for another NESCAC game.
