The Mules Fall to Bates in Neck and Neck NESCAC Battle

Lewiston, Maine - The Colby Women's Basketball team dropped a tight match up to the Bobcats of Bates College 57-52. The Mules are now 10-5 and 2-1 in the NESCAC while Bates advances to 14-2 and 3-1 in the conference. 

Today's game was a neck and neck battle with Colby starting on the trail end. The Mules and Bobcats went back and forth outscoring each other with Colby outscoring Bates 19-15 in the fourth quarter. The mules were able to outrebound the opponent with 13 offensive and 28 defensive rebounds. Colby played dominant in the lane with 34 points in the paint. The team highest point scorer was Kate Olenik with 15 points followed closely by Amelia Hanscom with 14. The Mules shared the ball well today with eight assists led by Olenik with three.  

Rebounds were led by Olenik with seven and Caroline Hartley with six. Hartley had eight points and got an assist as well as tying Olenik for team high of one block. The team had quick hands, stealing the ball from the bobcats five times. Ana Von Rumohr had two steals and Olenik, Lydia Mordarski, and Chelsea Ibenegbu grabbed one. Ibenegbu played well on both sides of the ball with nine points and four rebounds. Hanscom had five rebounds and two assists. While the Mules played hard the whole game they were unable to recover from their early point deficit and unfortunately fell to the Bates Bobcats. 

Colby will be back on the court on Tuesday January 20 at Maine Maritime Academy for a non conference match up.
