The Colby Men's Swimming and Diving team came came out strong on Saturday and overcame a 29 point deficit to beat Middlebury College. Winning the 1st 4 events the Mules were able to take down this lead that Middlebury would have from diving. In the 200 Medley the team of
Brandon Xiong,
Shepard Kerscher,
Alex Ruckel-Bekefi and
Brandon Morrison started the winning off right away. They would then be followed by
Brendan Kirberger winning the 1000 Freestyle and
Amaan Siddiqui winning the 200 Freestyle. Xiong then lead a 1,2 finish in the 50 backstroke where he was followed by
Henry Stimson. In the 100 Butterfly Morrison would lead another sweep as the Mules went 1,2,3  with
Skylar Yoham in 2nd and Ruckel-Bekefi in 3rd. Going into the 1st break Xiong won his 3rd event as he was victorious in the 50 Freestyle.
Coming out of the first break the Mules won the next 2 events as well. Siddiqui and
Todd Siekman would start it off by going 1,2 in the 100 freestyle and Xiong would continue to show his dominance by winning his 4th event in the 100 backstroke. In the 500 free there would also be another 1,2 finish with Kirberger winning his second event and Siddiqui coming in 2nd.Â
The final two individual events were also won by Colby with Ruckel-Bekefi winning the 50 butterfly and
Alexander MacLennan finishing 1st in the 100 IM to help seal the meet for the Mules.
Yoham's time in the 100 butterfly (51.48) was a college best and now ranks 12th in school history.
Breacan Shea also had a top swim in the 1000 free (10:12.10) and now ranks 19th in school history.
With these strong performances the team looks forward to their home meet next Saturday (1/17) against Worcester Polytechnic Institute. This will be the Senior meet recognizing the teams 5 seniors (
Ethan Chang, Nathaniel "Nano" Chon,
Alexander MacLennan,
Noam Reinhorn,
Brandon Xiong) for their contributions and leadership over the past 4 seasons. The senior recognition will begin at 12:45 with the meet starting at 1 pm.
