Williamstown, Massachusetts - Finishing out their away game stretch this weekend, Colby faced their toughest foreseeable opponent, #4 Williams College, in their first of a NESCAC doubleheader. Although the Mules had the slight edge over the Ephs in shots, two first-half goals from the hosts gave Colby their second loss of the season. The 2-0 defeat takes the Mules to 4-2-2 overall and 0-2-2 in NESCAC conference play.
The first blow came two minutes in as Williams' attacker, Mohamed Keussom, buried a cross in the bottom left corner. Colby responded well, forcing two saves as both Jude Gussen and Oliver Daboo tested the goalie early on. Later on in the half, substitutes Alexander Vittal and Leo Robison both tried their luck on goal, putting shots wide but showing an instant impact. Minutes later, the Ephs found their second in a deflating end to the half. The Mules trailed heading into the break, 2-0.
Coming out of the half, Colby continued to push for a lifeline, but a strong Williams defense kept the Mules at bay. A header from CJ Supan forced the first save of the half, while on the other end, Jackson Magee had a busy game of his own, denying a shot minutes later. The sophomore ended the game with three saves to continue his impressive first season as the Mules' shotstopper.Â
Colby is back in action tomorrow, September 28th, as they travel to Amherst, Massachusetts, to face another ranked opponent, #13 Amherst College.
