Middlebury, VT. - Colby Women's Lacrosse faced off in the NESCAC Semifinals against the Jumbos of Tufts University. The Mules fell to the Jumbos 18-9, wrapping up their Conference play.
The first quarter was high-scoring, particularly for Tufts' unstoppable offense. The Mules fought as hard as they could, but the score was 6-3 at the end of the first quarter. The Jumbos repeated their offensive push with six points, and Colby matched their own push with three. The score was 12-6 at the half. Both teams stepped up defensively in the third quarter, with Colby successfully holding Tufts to a single point while pushing forward with two points. The score was 13-8 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth, the Jumbos pushed ahead just as hard. They racked up five points and once again defensively showed up, holding the Mules down to a single point. The final score was 18-9.Â
Julia Jardina led the team with three goals, followed by
Kins Helmer with two, and Zoe Verbesey,
Ainsley Dion,
Gennie Littlejohn, and
Abby Clothier with one goal each.
Stella Regan led the team in assists with two.
Jillian Kane and
Kat Munter each contributed five ground balls. Munter also caused four turnovers.Â
