Women's Crew

Crew improves throughout the day with strong finals performances at National Invitational Rowing Championships

Worcester, Mass. - The Crew teams competed at the National Invitational Rowing Championships over the weekend back at Lake Quinsigamond which also doubled as their NESCAC Championship and where automatic qualifications for the NCAA and IRA National Championships were determined. The theme of the day was resilience for the entire team. It was another weekend of challenging conditions that tested the crews. It was sunny but moderate to strong winds made for some rough water. They overcame some subpar performances in the morning heats and turned in tremendous and very competitive results in the afternoon finals. The men just earned an at-large selection to the IRA Division III National Championship.

Men's Varsity eight of: Curtis Adams-Beyea '28; Dallas Watson '28; Charlie Anderson '25; Jack Childress '26; Theo Grossman '27; Danny Sullivan '26; Andy Li '28; Cole Christensen '27; Ian Ucko '28; finished 6th in NESCAC; 9th overall in the regatta. They had a very strong performance in their final after a disappointing morning heat. Rowing in some of the roughest water in an outside lane, they battled D1 Marist & Hobart to the end in the 2nd level final.

The Women's Varsity eight rowed by: Eunice Yi '28; Zoey Honsel '28; Isabel Grimes '25; Ellie Pohlig '26; Ainsley Bonang '25; Kate Ward '28; Shannon Murray '28; Erica O'Donnell '27; Zoe Dodge '26 finished 7th in NESCAC; 14th overall in the regatta. They raced in the 3rd level final they had a tremendous race, battling 11th ranked Coast Guard the whole way, falling by just 4 seconds, while beating Rochester, Conn, Mt. Holyoke and St. Lawrence. This result was a great improvement from their 2024 result.

Men's 2nd Varsity eight of Alyssa West '25; Jed Swan '28; Brendan Barrett '27; Robbie Trowbridge '28; Jackson Harrington '28; Jack Weinberg '26; Nolan Roche '28; Ian Zhou '28; Jack AbuHaidar '27 rowed their way to 6th in NESCAC; 8th overall in the regatta. They had a tremendous turnaround from their morning heat and in the second level final they ended up beating the same MIT crew that had by .5 seconds last week at the New England Rowing Championships and were barely a second behind D1 Marist.

Women's Open four consisted of: Tara Gorman '27; Isa Jurado '27; Dede Tindall '28; Ella Brochu '28; Molly Garvey '28 finished 3rd overall. This young crew was racing in their first championship level event and they won their opening heat to advance to the grand final where they finished 3rd of the 10 crews in the event.

The Men's 3rd Varsity eight rowed by: Nate Dunn '27; Charlie Pantelick '27; Josh Bradshaw '28; Sumner Groves '28; Henry Evans '28; Theo Ornstein '28; Augi Booth '28; Eliot Do '25; Bennett Jones '27 were 6th among NESCAC; 8th overall in the regatta. They also rallied from a challenging morning heat and were tenacious in their afternoon final, losing out to a Bates crew but holding off WPI, MIT and Coast Guard in a close race.

Men's Open four of: Caroline Batchelder '28; Dan Steber '27; Sawyer Dillon '28; Doug DeNatale '28; Aidan Fowler '27 finished 7th overall. The highlight for this young crew was being able to turn the table on the Trinity crew that had beaten them a week ago at the New England Rowing Championships by just over 5 seconds…a really strong turnaround.

Now the men's team will prepare for the IRA National Championships in a couple of weeks at the Cooper River Park in Camden New Jersey from Friday May 30th through Sunday June 1st.
