Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse | | Aidan Simmonds

First CBB Men's Lacrosse Game Ends in Loss for Colby

Waterville, Maine - In the first CBB(Colby, Bowdoin, Bates) rivalry matchup of the year, the Mules faced an unforgiving opponent in the #6 ranked Bowodin. After a tough second half, Colby lost 5-15, taking their record to 3-7 overall and 0-7 in NESCAC conference play, while the Polar Bears remain almost perfect with just one loss.

Although Bowdoin jumped out to an early lead to start, the Mules hung around and challenged the Polar Bears on both sides of the ball. Cormac O'Neill opened the scoring for Colby on a man-up possession, sitting perfectly at the back post where Bennett Goller found him for a quick tap-in. In the second quarter, Harrison Leenhouts kept the Mules in it on a solo-effort to cut Colby's deficit to 3. Not long after, a pass from just beyond the crease from goalie Will Heisler, found Gavin Rothenberg deep in the Bowdoin half, who quickly swung it to Brooks Rayment to take the Mules into the half down 3-7.

Coming out of the break, Colby lost all of their momentum as they struggled to break out of their own half and even get shots on goal. Six turnovers off clear attempts were costly and resulted in a 7-0 run from Bowdoin. The fourth quarter was a completely new team, registering nine shots on the offensive end while Heisler came up with seven saves. Will Steele got on the board off an assist from Jackson Alvord and Matt Stein buried the last goal of the game with 50 seconds to go.

The Mules are back in action Saturday, April 12, at 1 pm as they travel down to Hartford, Connecticut to take on Trinity College.
