Worcester, Mass.- On Saturday this past weekend the Colby Women's Crew team raced against WPI, Trinity, Connecticut College, and Clark University at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The two Mules varsity eight boats saw conditions with temperatures in the 60's, overcast, and blustery with a moderate cross headwind. After last weekend's weather cancellation both teams had strong performances against some of the top division III teams in the country. Colby Women's Crew beat a nationally ranked team.
The Mules first Varsity Eight crew rowed by: Eunice Yi '28; Ellie Pohlig '26; Isabel Grimes '25; Zoey Honsel '28; Ainsley Bonang '25; Kate Ward '28; Shannon Murray '28; Lele Gibbs '28; Zoe Dodge '26 ended up third among the other first Varsity teams. They had a strong performance with an upset over #15 Clark and fellow NESCAC opponent Conn. College. They were able to jump to an early lead over these two and stretch it out as the race progressed.
Colby's second Varsity Eight boat of: Tara Gorman '27; Erica O'Donnel '27; Molly Garvey '28; Ella Brochu '28; Hannah Colling '28; Megan Wiseman '28; Dede Tindall '28; Isabel Jurado '27; Abigail Stathis '27 also were able to finish 3rd in their race. They were not thrown off by a restart due to an issue with another boat. This young crew handled the challenge well. All crews headed back to the starting line and the second variety 8+ in a reconfigured lineup jumped to an early lead over Clark and Conn. College. This crew was able to hold off a furious charge from Clark in the final 250m.
They will be racing again this weekend on Sunday April, 27th for the Presidents Cup on the Androscoggin river in Greene, Maine vs. Bates and Bowdoin.
