Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Tough Third Quarter Sees Mules Fall to Williams on Senior Day

Waterville, Maine - The Mules hosted Williams this afternoon on Senior Day, and with a rotated roster to give the soon-to-be-graduates the last chance to play in front of their home crowd, Colby played one of their best games of the season. After a great first half, the Mules struggled in the third but couldn't fight their way back against the Ephs. The 13-15 loss taked Colby to 3-9 on the season and 0-9 in NESCAC conference play.

The game couldn't have started any better as the Mules had all the momentum. Easton Bello continued his scoring streak for Colby's first, followed by a rocket from Will Steele and another from Bello. The Mules even kept Williams off the scoresheet for the first ten minutes as senior goalie Will Rickards came up with six first quarter saves–letting one past to cut Colby's lead to 2. In the second quarter, the Mules continued their offensive barrage as Nick Sokolosky and Gavin Rothenberg buried one each, the latter coming from an acrobatic dive across the front of the crease. Rothenberg grabbed his second minutes later as Colby would go on to trade goals with Williams, keeping the Ephs in the game. Thacher McCoy and Evan DeVita scored late in the half, contributing to the Mules' 8-5 lead heading into the break.

The third quarter, well, didn't look anything like the first two. Colby was the victim of a 6-0 run, getting shut out and suddenly facing a 3-point deficit. In the fourth, the Mules brought the game within one after a 3-1 run. Brooks Rayment kickstarted the comeback and later, Matt Stein scored on a man-up play and Bennett Goller grabbed his first of the game. Down 12-11, Colby almost brought the game back but the Ephs sealed the game with three goals in two minutes. Bello had two late goals to round out his hat-trick and finish the game on a positive note.

Colby is back in action for their final game of the season, Wednesday, April 23rd at 7 pm. The Mules travel down to Lewiston, Maine to take on Bates as they look to grab their first NESCAC conference win over their close rivals.
