Lewiston, Maine - The Colby Men's Lacrosse season ended tonight, wrapping up another tough season in the NESCAC conference. The Mules fell to Bates, 10-13, taking their record to 3-10 overall and 0-10 in NESCAC conference play–their first time going winless since 2016.
Bates jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but solo goals from Evan DeVita and Easton Bello brought the Mules within 2 to end the quarter. Bello grabbed another hat trick this game, ending the season on a goalscoring tear. In the second quarter, Bennett Goller kept Colby close to the Bobcats off an assist from Nick Sokolosky. The Mules trailed, 3-5, heading into the half.
In what has become an unfortunate trend, Colby had a tough third quarter as Bates slowly pulled away. An early goal from Goller pulled the Mules within two but a 4-0 run from the Bobcats put the game almost fully out of reach. Gavin Rothenberg and DeVita scored late in the third quarter after the Mules put 10 shots on the Bates goal. Colby had a high-scoring fourth quarter as Sokolosky and Bello each buried two goals, but the Mules couldn't muster enough to complete the 6-goal comeback.
After a long season, there were positive takeaways for Colby, but they should immediately look to next year and aim to outperform a tough 2025.
