Box Score
Middletown, Ct - Following wins against Conn College and Trinity in their first two matches, the Colby Women's Tennis team looked to make it three straight with a dual against #5 Wesleyan on the road.
The Cardinals started strong, taking the doubles point from the Mules 6-2 at the #1 position, 6-1 at the #2 position, and 6-4 at the #3 position.
After Colby lost a pair of singles matches at the #1 and #5 spots, Wesleyan was one point away from securing the win. The Mules would not go down without a fight though. First-year
Waka Aida was on the brink of defeat but kept Colby's hopes alive with a clutch second-set tiebreaker, extending the match to a third set. Aida's opponent responded with some high-level tennis, ultimately winning 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-1 at the #4 spot.
First-year
Ella Novion and junior captain
Isabella Suk also put up valiant efforts. After dropping the first set, Novion battled hard to force the second into a tiebreaker, before falling 6-3, 7-6(5) at the #3 position. Suk also showed resilience, forcing a tiebreaker in the second prior to losing 6-4, 7-6(5) at the #6 spot.
At the end of the weekend, Colby returns home splitting a pair of NESCAC matches. The Mules will be back in action, hosting two non-conference matches this weekend against Smith College on Saturday and Brandeis on Sunday.
