Atlanta, GA – The No. 37 Colby College women's tennis team opened its spring break road trip Sunday morning with a 5-2 loss against No. 15 Washington and Lee.
Washington and Lee earned the match's opening point by sweeping all three doubles positions. At the No. 1 spot, Isabella Suk and Michaela Landry dropped a 3-6 decision. The No. 2 duo of Ella Novion and Kat Lowy fought through a competitive set before falling 4-6. Amelie Gal and Soumya Wijesekera also fell by a 3-6 score at the No. 3 position.
In singles action, Tina Barrow provided a spark for Colby at the No. 5 flight, becoming the first Mule to finish with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory. Isabella Suk added a second point for the Mules at the No. 6 spot with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 win. At the top of the order, Jade Finestone fell 1-6, 6-7 after dropping the second-set tiebreaker 0-7. Ella Novion was defeated 2-6, 3-6 at No. 2 , while Soumya Wijesekera fell 3-6, 1-6 at the No. 4 position. At No. 3 singles, Michaela Landry opened with a perfect 6-0 first set but was unable to maintain the momentum, eventually falling 0-6, 3-6 in the following frames.
The Mules remain in Atlanta for a quick turnaround as they continue their southern swing. Colby is scheduled to face off against Emory University tomorrow, March 23, seeking to split their stay in Georgia against another highly ranked opponent.
