Waterville, Maine - The reign of Tufts men's lacrosse has continued into 2025 and, like in previous years, didn't go Colby's way. In a NESCAC matchup against the #1 ranked team in the nation, the Mules put up a fight but unfortunately fell to the Jumbos, 7-15. Colby falls to 2-5 overall and 0-5 in NESCAC conference play.
After the whistle, the Mules matched everything Tufts threw at them, tying the game up after the Jumbos' first two goals. Bennett Goller grabbed each of the equalizers off assists from Gavin Rothenberg and Will Steele, taking his season goal tally to to 16. After a strong end to the first quarter, Tufts continued their momentum and jumped out to a 5-2 lead before Rothenberg pulled one back. The Mules headed into the break trailing 3-7.
Coming out of the break, Colby fought off another onslaught from the Jumbos, forcing goalie Will Heisler into five saves. The junior ended up with 24 on the night after a busy defensive outing. Offensively, Rothenberg completed his hat-trick, with his last two goals coming in the third quarter. The Mules did have a strong end to the game, with two goals in the last five minutes through defenseman Jackson Alvord and Will Steele.
The Mules are back in action this Tuesday, April 1st, hosting Maine Maritime Academy in a non-conference matchup at 6:30 pm.
