Medford, Mass. - The Women's Lacrosse team faced off against Tufts University on Saturday, falling to the Jumbos 17-6. The Mules are now 4-1 in NESCAC and 7-1 overall.
Colby was the first on the scoreboard with a goal three minutes in, but Tufts was quick to respond with a goal on their own. Again, Colby scored and Tufts responded to tie it up, but then the Jumbos scored three unanswered goals for a score of 5-2 to round out the first quarter. Colby and Tufts more or less traded goals in the second quarter, resulting in a score of 9-5 at the half. The Jumbos' defense stepped up in the second half, shutting out the Mules while pushing offensively for a score of 12-5 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter was another battle by Tufts, shutting Colby out until the last minute when
Julia Jardina scored, slightly narrowing the lead Tufts spent the half growing. The Jumbos won 17-6.
Jardina led the team in goals with two, followed by
Ainsley Dion,
Gennie Littlejohn,
Julia Maimonis, and
Kins Helmer each with one.
Kat Munter racked up five ground balls and Dion led the team in draw controls with three. Additionally,
Gretchen Biegel caused three turnovers.
Jillian Kane more than tripled Tufts' goalkeeper's saves with 10.
The Mules are home on Monday, March 31, for a game against the University of Southern Maine at 4 pm.
