Lancaster, Pa. - The Colby Women's Lacrosse team toppled #3 seed Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday, defeating F&M 9-7. The Mules improve to a 7-0 record overall.
F&M came out swinging, scoring the first goal of the game only thirty seconds into the first quarter. Colby responded, though, scoring a goal of their own a minute and a half later. After some back and forth, Colby had the lead at 3-2 heading into the second quarter. It was Colby's turn to start strong, scoring the first goal of the quarter in less than a minute, widening their lead while holding F&M at only one goal scored the whole quarter. The Mules led 5-3 going into the second half. F&M and Colby traded goals throughout the third quarter, with a slightly stronger push by F&M which closed the Mules' lead slightly to only a single goal. Colby led 7-6 going into the final quarter. The Mules kept up their momentum, once again scoring twice while holding F&M to a single goal, and securing a 9-7 win.
Julia Jardina had a standout performance, scoring five goals, controlling three draws, securing a ground ball, and causing a turnover.
Gennie Littlejohn was the Mules' second leading scorer with two goals, also contributing three assists.
Abby Clothier and Gretchen Biegal each caused two turnovers.
The Mules next face off against #2 Tuft University on Saturday, March 29, at 1 pm in Medford, Mass.
