Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Softball team is ready to begin their season tomorrow, March 19th, hosting a doubleheader against Thomas College. The Mules opened last years campaign against the Terriers as well resulting in a 2-0 start to the season. The team will look to do the same this year before heading on their spring break trip to sunny Clermont, Florida where they will play against 12 different opponents over the course of the week.
Coming off an 18-19 overall record (10-8 in conference play) last season, Colby will look to make its fourth straight appearance in the NESCAC Championship tournament after earning the four seed in both of the past two seasons. Despite losing six seniors to graduation, the Mules will be joined by a group of five first-years who will look to make an impact on the program. The three senior leaders this year include
Erika MacLeod,
Katelyn Hays and
Colleen McAvoy.
Four of the five top hitters from last season return to the lineup including junior
Carissa Cassidy, a two-time All-NESCAC second team selection. She had a batting average of .336 last year while leading the team in both runs (29) and hits (45) while going a perfect 21 of 21 in stolen base attempts. The other top returning hitters include
Victoria Ramirez who led the team in doubles (12),
Emma Burnham who had 22 runs including three home runs and
Juliana Kiley who had 19 RBI's on 24 hits.
In the circle, sophomore
Ashley Correll and junior
Kathryne Clay return for the 2025 season. Correll had a 3.21 ERA and 1.80 WHIP last season with 45 strikeouts while Clay had a 4.96 ERA and 2.02 WHIP in just 18.1 innings pitched.
The Mules will be led by Head Coach
Terren Allen returning for her seventh season with the team. She is joined by Assistant Head Coach
Dorothy O'Donnell who has been with the team since the start of the 2018-19 season.
Wednesday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm on the Colby Softball Field. Fans can check out the teams
