Terren Allen has served as the head coach of the Colby College Softball program since August 2018 where she has guided the Mules to an 87-105 (.453) overall record and a 40-46 (.465) mark against NESCAC opponents. The 2023 NESCACÂ Coach of the Year enters her 12th year with an overall record of 179-171-0 (.511).
Under her leadership, Colby Softball has witnessed historic improvements on the diamond. In her eight-year tenure, she has guided the Mules to their first four consecutive NESCAC postseason appearances (2022-25) in program history, including two berths into the semifinal round (2023, 2025). In 2023, she guided the Mules to its highest overall win total in 24 years and its second 20-victory season in the program’s 50-year history with a school record 24 wins at the time.
At Colby, Allen’s players have earned 11 NESCAC All-Conference, 12 NFCA All-Region 1 and six MCBSA All-State Selections.
Off the diamond, her players have garnered 10 CSC Academic All-District and 33 NESCACÂ All-Academic team selections. Additionally, Allen has coached one Marjorie D. Bither Award recipient and 44 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honorees.
Prior to her arrival on the Mayflower Hil campus, Allen spent four seasons (2015-18) as the head softball coach at Husson University, where she guided the Eagles to three North Atlantic Conference regular season titles (2015, 2017, 2018) and two NAC championships in 2015 and 2018 with two trips to the NCAA Division III championship tournament.
Additionally, she led Husson to their first-ever NCAA Division III Regional Championship game in 2015.
The two-time NAC Coach of the Year winner led Husson to a 92-66 (.582) overall record and a 34-10 (.773) mark against conference opponents during her time in the Eagle dugout. Allen’s teams won 20 or more games in three of her four seasons, including two seasons with 25 victories or more.
In 158 career games as the head coach at Husson, Allen coached two NAC Players of the Year selections, one NAC Pitcher of the Year recipient, one NAC Rookie of the Year winner, and one NAC Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Additionally, Allen worked alongside 18 NAC All-Conference selections and mentored 19 NAC All-Academic team honorees.
Allen coached three ECAC All-New England selections and one ECAC New England Rookie of the Year.
At Husson, Allen also served as the director of compliance.
Before Husson, Allen was the general manager and director of softball at Sluggers in Brewer, Maine from 2012-15. She also coached the Under-18 Maine Sluggers travel team and instructed individuals in pitching, hitting, catching, and fielding during her time at Sluggers.
After graduating, Allen served as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of Maine, in 2011 and 2013-14, and worked with the outfielders and hitters.
Allen was a four-year letter winner as an infielder for the Black Bears from 2008-11. She batted .323 in 204 career games with 207 hits, 35 homers, 43 doubles, one triple, 167 RBI, 70 walks, 21 stolen bases, 357 total bases and a .558 slugging percentage.
At the end of her playing days, the three-time America East All-Conference selection was the University of Maine softball program’s record holder for career home runs, doubles and games played. Additionally, she also held the program’s records for most home runs by a first-year (9) and the most RBI (53) in a single season.
Off the field, Allen was named to the America East All-Academic team all four seasons.
Allen earned a bachelor of science in kinesiology and physical education with a minor in business administration from the University of Maine in 2011.
A native of Bucksport, Maine, Allen attended Bucksport High School and was named Class B Softball Player and Pitcher of the Year in 2006 and 2007. She and her husband, Jeremy, reside in Williamsburg, Maine with their children, Ethan and Eliza.
