Head Coach Tom Burton Reaches Career Win 300

Waterville, Maine - With the weekend sweep over Bates and Bowdoin in the women's leg of the CBB, Head Coach Tom Burton reached his 300th career victory.  Coming into the year he had 217 wins at Colby plus 70 from a previous stay at Lake Forest.  This season, the women's team has accumulated 10 wins (including the Maine State Championship) and the men's team has added another four, for a total of 301.

"Congratulations to Coach Tom Burton on achieving this coaching milestone," said Amanda DeMartino, Harold Alfond Director of Athletics and Recreation. "We are so fortunate to have Coach Burton who has guided and mentored Colby students for over 27 years.  He is a well respected leader not only in the Athletic Department but across campus, and this accomplishment is just one example of his passion and dedication to the Mules throughout his tenure. This has been one of the most exciting seasons for our swim teams, and we look forward to continuing to cheer on Coach Burton and his students as they head into the postseason!"

In his 27 years as head coach at Colby, Burton has guided the Mules to numerous milestones and remarkable moments.  Named NESCAC Coach of the Year in  2001, 2005, and 2023, Burton has coached over 100 athletes to All-American status including current swimmers Ethan Chang, Gabriella Landau, Alexander MacLennan, Carson Rehkopf, and Brandon Xiong. The current women's team just completed an unprecedented undefeated dual meet season with a 9-0 record.

Up next, the Mules close out the regular season with the men's leg of the annual CBB this coming weekend before entering NESCAC Championships.  The women will compete at Colby February 13-16 while the men wait an additional week and take to the lanes at Middlebury February 20-23.
