With their final home meets of the season the Colby Swimming and Diving teams honored their seniors by winning big over Wesleyan University. The women won by a score of 227-111 and the men won 204-113. It was a great way for the team to honor their 8 seniors Zoe Appio,
Spencer Cohen,
Ivan Knoepflmacher, Gabriella Landau, Ellie Mackle, Lily Moy,
Carson Rehkopf and Ruby Venturelli. Once again the philosophy of team first and taking every opportunity was demonstrated by the Mules.Â
The women came out strong as they won their first 9 events. Overall they won 14 out of the 18 events and finished 1,2,3 in 4 of the individual races. Leading the way was Tahlia Crowley (50 Backstroke, 100 Backstroke, 200 Backstroke) and Lexi Asch (50 Butterfly, 200 Butterfly, 100 Butterfly) who each won their 3 events. Kellen Mottl (50 Breaststroke, 100 Breaststroke) and Caitlin Lacey (100 Freestyle, 200 IM) won two a piece and individual winners were Abby Bauman (1000 Freestyle), Savannah Lombardi (200 Freestyle) and Eliza Marco (50 Freestyle). To finish out the meet the 200 freestyle Relay of Marco, Zoe Buzzelli, Landau and Lucy Mackey led another 1,2,3 sweep by the Mules.
On the mens side 8 members of the team earned victories including all 3 seniors. Knoepflmacher kept his winning ways going on both the 1M and 3M boards whiole also making his regional qualifying score, Cohen was victorious in the 100 and 200 Backstrokes and Rehkopf won the 200 Freestyle.
Brandon Xiong was a multiple event winner (50 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle) and other event winners were
Ethan Chang (50 Butterfly),
Curtis Johnson (1000 Freestyle),
Brandon Morrison (200 Butterfly) and
Skylar Yoham (500 Freestyle). Just like the women the men finished the meet with a 1,2 sweep in the 200 Freestyle Relay led by the team of Xiong, Chang,
Michael Fiechter and Rehkopf.
Next up for the Mules will be the Women's Colby/Bates/Bowdoin meet in Lewiston, ME on Saturday February 1st with diving starting at 11:00 am and swimming starting at 1 pm. This will be followed up the following week (February 8th) with the men's Colby/Bates/Bowdoin meet starting at 1 pm in Brunswick, ME.
