Women’s Basketball Comes up Short against Bates in Tight Battle

Waterville Maine - The Colby Women's Basketball team faced Bates College falling to the Bobcats 61-50. Colby moves to 5-1 for the year and Bates jumps to 6-0.

The Mules started off hot, scoring 10 points in the first quarter while holding Bates to single digits. Colby's offense slowed for the second quarter, but picked back up in the third, outscoring the Bobcats by three to go into the fourth tied at 39. The final quarter proved a difficult moment for the Mules as Bates pulled out a game high 22 points and Colby came up short with 11. However, the Mules utilized their opportunities from hustle on defense scoring 21 points off of caused turnovers and had another strong outing from the bench collecting 17 points. Ultimately, Bates prevailed with a final score of 61-50.

Lydia Mordarski played strong tonight leading in both points with 15, and rebounds with six and contributing a block. Shea Donnelly played with heart on defense leaving with a close five rebounds and leading the team with two assists. Emily Ryan had a team high three assists and grabbed eight points and a rebound as well.

The Mules are back on the court Saturday, staying in Maine for a matchup against Bowdoin College in Brunswick.
