Colby Falls to Gustavus Adolphus in Shootout

Waterville, Maine. - The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team played the Gustavus Adolphus College Gusty's in the final round of the Bowdoin-Colby Thanksgiving Classic. Tied 1-1 for most of the game and through one period of overtime, Gustavus finished on top with a 2-1 win in shootout The Mules now stand 4-1-1 overall.

In a scoreless first period, Gustavus outshot Colby 13 to six. Each team also had one powerplay opportunity each, but neither was able to capitalize. In the second, sophomore Colby Browne started off the scoring with an unassisted goal just five minutes into the period. The Mules and the Gusty's each had equal opportunities with 12 and 13 shots on goal, respectively. Gustavus scored their first goal of the game with about six minutes left in the second, making it a 1-1 game to start the third period. 

While the third period also remained scoreless, Gustavus dominated, taking 19 shots on goal compared to Colby's six. In a five minute overtime period, the Mules outshot the Gusty's two to one, but the game still remained tied 1-1. In the three-round shootout, sophomore Massimo Gentile was the only Colby player to find the back of the net, while Gustavus made two of their attempts, as Gustavus ended with a 2-1 shootout win. Sophomore Cooper Rautenstrauch made a season-high 45 saves over the 65-minute game, giving the Mules a fighting chance.

Colby is back in action this Friday at Tufts University at 7pm.
