Malden, Mass. - The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team played the Jumbos of Tufts University on Friday evening for another competitive NESCAC matchup. Despite trailing 1-0 in the first period, Colby scored five unanswered goals to beat the Jumbos 5-1, recording four different goal scorers. The Mules now stand 3-1-1 in the NESCAC, ranked third in the conference.
The first period remained scoreless until the Jumbos found the back of the net with just under two minutes to play, taking a 1-0 lead to start the second. Senior captain
Tyler Crist got on the scoreboard first for the Mules, scoring an unassisted goal to tie the game 3:51 into the second period. Less than two minutes later sophomore
Colby Browne gave the Mules their first lead of the game, with assists to first-year
Noah Carpenter and sophomore
Massimo Gentile. Gentile finished up the scoring of the second period assisted by Browne and senior
Max Abene, giving Colby a 3-1 lead with four minutes to play.
The Mules didn't let up in the third period, with a goal at 9:38 from senior
James Tepper, assisted by junior
Jayden Grier, and a second goal for Crist just over a minute later, the fifth and final goal for Colby of the night. Sophomore
Cooper Rautenstrauch recorded 25 saves to lead to Mules to their win over the Jumbos.
Colby is back in action Saturday at Connecticut College at 3pm.
