Colby Falls to Bowdoin in Final Minutes of Regulation

College at home on Saturday evening. Colby took the lead early in the first period, but Bowdoin pushed ahead in the third, as the Mules finished with a 3-2 loss. The Mules now stand 2-1-0 overall in the NESCAC.

Colby and Bowdoin both came out strong in the first period, playing an even first 20 minutes, tallying 10 and 11 shots on goal, respectively. The Mules found the back of the net first, as Colby Browne scored his second of the season off passes from sophomores Michael Buenzow and Massimo Gentile just eight minutes into the period. Each team had one power play opportunity, but the Polar Bears weren't able to capitalize.

In the second, Bowdoin was able to tie the game with a goal 10:45 in the period. Colby continued to fight on the offensive end, recording seven shots on goal, but the game remained tied after 40 minutes. In the third period, the Mules pushed ahead again with a power play goal from senior captain Tyler Crist, assisted by Will Soloway and Browne. Less than two minutes later the Polar Bears tied the game once again. With just over three minutes left to play, Bowdoin scored again off a scrum in front of the net, taking the lead for the first time in the game 3-2. Colby fought until the end, finding six shots with an extra man on the ice, but it wasn't enough to tie the game as Bowdoin finished with a 3-2 win. Sophomore Cooper Rautenstrauch gave the Mules a fighting chance with 30 saves for the night.

Colby is back in action next Tuesday at Suffolk for a non-conference game at 5pm.
