Waterville, Maine - To conclude the opening weekend of the new season, the Colby Women's Basketball team defeated the Blue from Wellesley College 71-48. The win propels the Mules to a 2-0 start to the season while Wellesley drops to 2-2.
The first half of the opening frame remained close until a 12-2 Colby run put the Mule ahead by 11 to closeout the first ten minutes of play.
Kate Olenik scored 10 of Colby's 24 first quarter points while
Amelia Hanscom gathered six assists. The second quarter was played tight with the Blue scoring 14 but the Mules remained ahead dropping 15 points of their own for a 39-27 lead at the halftime break. Colby held on to the double digit lead the rest of the way for their second win early into the 2025-26 season.
Olenik led all scorers with 19 points in the contest followed by Hanscom with a 10-point, 10-rebound double double to go along with her six assist from the opening quarter.
Ana Von Rumohr and
Caroline Hartley had eight points apiece in the contest. First-year
Emily Ryan had a great all around game recording six assists, three steals, three rebounds, the Mules' lone block, and a basket in 33 minutes of play.
With the conclusion of the Gene DeLorenzo Tip Off Tournament Colby will look ahead to their next matchup taking on Rivier University Thursday, November 20th at noon here on Mayflower Hill.
