Colby Men's Crew Looks Strong in First Race of the Fall Season

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Colby Men's Crew team had four crews racing today in the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta. Three raced in the Men's Collegiate eight event and one boat raced in the Men's Collegiate four event. Flat water, minimal winds, and sunny skies made for ideal racing conditions.

In the Collegiate Men's eight event, the Colby A crew led the way for the Mules, finishing 5th with a time of 13:48.6. This boat was made up of Nathan Dunn '27, Ian Ucko '28, Nolan Roche '27, Jack Weinberg '26, Jack Childress '26, Andy Li '28, Jackson Harrington '28, Connor Katz '29, and Ian Zhou '28. They were the second Division III boat to cross the line, within 10 seconds of WPI who finished 4th.

The Colby B crew with Curtis Adams-Beyea '28, Benjamin Zipkin '29, William Steinwachs '29, Alex Malkani '29, Reed Blaeser '29, William Eardley '26, Augi Booth '28, Robbie Trowbridge '28, and Cole Christensen '27, finished only 11 seconds behind the A crew with a time of 13:59.6. Their time put them in an impressive 8th place, 10 seconds ahead of Boston College's A crew and 19 seconds ahead of WPI's B crew. The ability for Colby's B crew to finish this close to the A crew reflects the increasing depth of the team and their bright future ahead.

Colby's C crew rounded out a strong performance by the Mules in the Collegiate eight event with a 13th place finish, coming across the line in 14:39.0. This boat was made up by Addison Schonewald '29, Charlie Pantelick '27, Joshua Bradshaw '28, Alex Furber '29, Danny Sullivan '26, Shankara Rao '29, Sumner Groves '28, Tyler Merritt '28, and Sawyer Dillion '28.

In the Collegiate Men's four event, the Colby Mules finished in 4th place with a time of 16:16.7. This crew was made up by Leon Lee '29, Doug Denatale '28, Henry Evans '28, Sam Mulcahy '28, and Duncan Rishel '29.

The Mules return to Waterville satisfied with their first performance this year, and hungry for more. There is more speed to be found across all the boats and the team is ready to dig in and squeeze everything they can out of these next three weeks of the fall season.

This week and next will prove vital in their preparation for the next opportunity at the Head of the Charles in Boston on Sunday, October 19th.
