Castine, Maine - With three games left in the season, Colby Men's Soccer is back to winning ways. After a tough stretch of NESCAC matches, a win tonight against non-conference opponent Maine Maritime Academy is crucial for the Mules heading into the tail end of their season. A 2-0 scoreline takes Colby to 5-4-3 overall and 0-4-3 in NESCAC conference play.Â
From the whistle, the Mules controlled the game and created chances in their opponents' half. Braden Jondro opened the floodgates by sending a ball over the bar, and soon after, Colby tallied shots that resulted in the opener. At this point in the season, it seems like life's certainties are death, taxes, and Jude Gussen tormenting a non-conference opponent. The freshman's team-leading fourth goal of the season continues his streak of goal contributions against a non-NESCAC team.
The Mules' second came twenty minutes later as fellow freshman Leo Robison capitalized on a shot from Ethan Soroca, steering the ball into the back of the net. Robison's second goal of the season gave Colby a bit of breathing room, but the Mules still pushed for a third, registering eleven shots in the second half that forced four saves.
Defensively, Colby kept MMA to five shots, with only two testing goalkeeper Jackson Magee. Heading into a tough final stretch of the season, a clean sheet away from home is a positive note for the Mules as they aim to pick up their first NESCAC win.
Colby is back in action this Saturday, October 18th, as they travel to Hartford, Connecticut, to face Trinity College.
