Mules Beat Bates in NESCAC Showdown

Waterville, Maine. - Colby faced off in a conference match against the Bobcats of Bates College today, coming out on top with a final score of 58-55. The Mules improve to an undefeated conference record of 3-0 and an overall record of 8-7.

The Bobcats came out of the gate swinging, accumulating 18 points and holding the Mules down at 11. Bates's largest lead of the game would occur in this quarter, but it wouldn't last. Colby came out swinging even harder in the second quarter, scoring a massive 23 points while holding the Bobcats down to 12. With that, the Mules took the lead at the half with a score of 34-30. Defense picked up for both teams in the third quarter as they played out a very competitive back-and-forth before ultimately arriving at a 46-44 score heading into the fourth quarter. It was then that Colby sealed Bates's fate. Defense was stricter still, with the lowest total points scored of the whole game, but the Mules were that much stricter. In keeping Bates down to 11, and scoring 12 of their own, Colby secured a 58-55 win over the Bobcats.

Kate Olenik led the way offensively, scoring 22 points and accumulating 11 rebounds for a double double. She also led her team in assists with four and steals with two. Ana Von Rumohr and Amelia Hanscom both also contributed massively to Colby's total points with 12 and 10 points scored respectively. Lydia Mordarski dominated defensively with eight defensive rebounds, a steal, and a block.

Colby's next match is at home once again this Tuesday, January 21, at 7 pm against Thomas College.
