Colby Dominates in NESCAC Opener vs Connecticut College

Waterville, Maine. - Colby faced off against the Camels of Connecticut College in their NESCAC opener Friday night, defeating Conn 67-46. The Mules improve to a 1-0 conference record, 5-7 overall. 

The Mules' defense was a force to be reckoned with in the first quarter, holding the Camels down at only seven points but racking up 20 of their own. The momentum stayed strong in the second quarter, once again keeping Conn to single digits at nine while accumulating an additional 15 for a score of 35-16 heading into the second half. The third quarter saw a solid effort by both teams and the best offensive performance by Conn of the game, resulting in a score of 53-29 as the Mules prepared for the toughest quarter of the game in the forth. The Camels refused to give up, and pushed harder than ever in the final quarter. This was the only quarter where Conn outscored the Mules, but the Mules were also not willing to give up. In the tightest quarter of the game, Colby managed to keep their lead, securing a 67-49 win over the Camels. 

Colby demonstrated talent across their lineup with 80% of Colby's players scoring points. Three players scored in the double digits: Kate Olenik, Lydia Mordarski, and Amelia Hanscom. Hanscom also boasted nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Ana Von Rumohr also demonstrated great work across the board with nine points, four rebounds, and two assists. 

Colby next faces off at home against Tufts Saturday, January 11, at 3 pm.
