Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Volleyball team is ready to begin the season Tuesday night hosting Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Last year, the Mules grabbed a 3-0 sweep in Standish to open the season and have only lost to the Monks one time since 2000 (18 total matchups).
After qualifying for the NESCAC tournament for the first time since 2015 during the 2022 season, the Mules had a stronger season in 2023 posting a 17-8 record (most wins since 2005) including a 7-3 conference record to secure the two seed for the NESCAC tournament. While only losing one senior to graduation this past spring, the team remains young yet highly talented including seven juniors, 14 sophomores and a first-year class of four. All-Conference selection
Brady Moseley '27 returns after leading the team in kills with 232 last season to go along with 219 digs defensively. Juniors
LJ Grant and
Emma Davis also hit the triple digits in kills last year with 142 and 108.
Allison Rodriguez '27 was the team-leader in assists in 2023 securing 362 while
Reanna Yadao led the team in digs with 403.
Head Coach
Lindsay Johnson, who has improved the teams record each year, now enters her fourth season with the Mules and looks to push the team even further.
"It's been so fun getting back in the gym with my team." said Johnson. "This is the most competitive our practices have been since I've been at Colby. My team is prepared and hungry for this season. Our schedule is our toughest one yet and we will be tested early on. I look forward to seeing my team play at a higher level and compete with some of the best teams in the country. I can't wait to see where our growth over the next 2-3 months takes us!"
Johnson is assisted by
Julie Hall who has been with the team since the spring of 2022 and
Emma Kuivila who comes to Mayflower Hill after playing at Bethany College (WV) for the past four years.
Tuesday's match is set for a 7:30 start in the Margaret M. Crook Center. Fans can follow alongside the action using the
