Gorham, Maine - The Colby Women's Lacrosse Team took on the University of Southern Maine yesterday. The Mules topped the Huskies in a stunning 19-3 victory, improving their overall record to 7-2.
Colby came out swinging, scoring three unanswered goals in under the first five minutes. They carried that momentum through the first quarter, leading with a score of 7-2. The Mules shut out the Huskies in the next two quarters, wrapping up the half with a score of 11-2 and the third quarter with a score of 16-2. USM would push back in the final stretch of the game with the last goal of the fourth quarter, but it would not be enough to disrupt Colby's impressive offensive front. At the end of the game, the Mules trumped the Huskies 19-3.
An impressive showing by First-year
Zoey Verbesey with a whopping five goals made her the lead scorer, helped by
Julia Jardina's four goals and
Cami McDonald's three. In keeping with the wide array of talent, Colby had standout performances by three different goalkeepers:
Sarah Hearns,
Abby Booth, and
Gigi Peloso. The Mules showed talent across all positions and all class years.
